The KPI Programme is thrilled to launch the refreshed whānau engagement indicator for the mental health and addiction sector.
Created in collaboration with the Family Whānau Advisor Aotearoa network, the new whānau engagement indicator data dashboard measures what percentage of tāngata whai ora, who experience an in-scope activity, also had a whānau engagement activity recorded in PRIMHD.
For the first time, the whānau engagement indicator includes alcohol and drug team data. However, due to current PRIMHD collection protocols in Te Whatu Ora mental health and addiction services, this initial dashboard cannot display whānau engagement in inpatient or forensic mental health settings.
The new dashboard provides a national overview of whānau engagement within a single financial quarter and shows the percentage of tāngata whai ora with whānau engagement within each quarter, split by age. It also explores the days to first whānau engagement, split by DHB and demographics.
Like other KPI Programme indicator data dashboards, the data can be filtered by financial quarter and initial team type, as well as by age and individual DHB, or filtered to show just NGO values.

There is still work to be done, and the KPI Programme team will continue to refine the dashboard based on sector feedback.
