Clinicians and kaimahi from Te Ara Oranga will share with the Whāriki whānau how this community-up, connected systems approach is reducing harm from methamphetamine use in Northland. They will explain how the service, which involved both mind shifts and operational change, was conceived and the unparalleled results it is having.
Te Ara Oranga is an integrated approach between drug treatment providers, Te Whatu Ora, the emergency department and police. Police and treatment resources are focused on breaking drug supply chains and ensuring people with problematic use get access to treatment, while prosecution and court resources are directed to drug offenders involved in the most significant criminal activity.
