Mental health and addiction services across Aotearoa face ongoing pressures around increased demand, lack of flow through services, and reduced staffing resource.
Te Whatu Ora Waikato provides an overview of the work they have done to operationally manage these pressures. In this session Dr. Andrew Darby , Virginia Endres and Clindella Stirling talk about how they have used a referral prioritisation matrix, sustainable caseloads, reducing waitlists and managing tāngata whaiora risk to improve outcomes.

Andrew Darby is the Clinical Director for the integrated community adult mental health service and community alcohol and other drug service. Andrew is a general adult and addictions psychiatrist. He has worked in multiple areas including Crisis, Inpatient Services, Community Outpatients, and Primary Care Psychiatry Liaison and in various leadership roles for around 15 years.
Virginia Endres is a clinical psychologist with a passion for improving service delivery and using data and information to evidence this. Virginia is the Team Leader for Clinical Improvement
Clindella Stirling is the Operations Manager for community and specialty mental health and addiction services. She is a registered nurse by discipline. Clindella has experience working in acute and sub acute inpatient settings in both Forensic Services and Adult Mental Health, she has been working in the community setting for the past 18 months.
